In Honor of…
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)
Martin Luther King Jr was an influential man. He had the courage to speak for black rights, and he was a true visionary. Unfortuantely, in the south, racism was thriving during the time of Martin Luther King. He was assasinated on April 4th, 1968 at the age of 39. It was after one of his famous speeches by a racist named James Earl Ray. We take a day off this monday on national Martin Luther King day to remeber the great life, and tragic death, of Martin Luther King. Although we take off on this day, I do not agree with it. Instead of taking the day off from school and doing whatever, I think that we should go to school and learn about Martin’s life and death. My favorite quote of Martin Luther King Jr, is probably the most famous one: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” It was said during his most famous speech titled “I Have a Dream” in August 1963.
